There would never be any potential from earth to any point in the system unless ultimately the battery had it's own stake separate from the inverter - or your voltages are so high the air ionizes and you are throwing lightning around
I think you are saying do NOT connect battery negative of inverter to the frame of RV or boat . The inverter shell should NOT be grounded to RV or boat frame either . RV and boat has no ground unless on shore power . Maybe use GFCI to not be electrocuted . All Powerjack inverter has floating neutral and no currenr between bat and neutral .
You do not have to independently ground the inverter with it's own rod.
When you connect the inverters ground to your main distribution panel, the grounding rod for your house will do that.
I don't worry about grounding my DC system.
