It's a great start, we've probably all started off that way. Great way to catch the off-grid bug, and gotta love it when the neighbors inform you about a power outage you knew nothing about 👍.
Welcome to the forum.
Thank you for the welcome, I appreciate it.
The earliest dabbling was with a Bedini Simple School Girl, which grew to a 5' diameter wheel with a single 85 lb, 117 strand coil. Moved from wheels to SS pulsing a single IGBT on the large coil. Unused strands from the coil could be used to power LED strands for free.
My 'best' battery charger is a 1.5 ohm coil of 14ga wire pulsed SS, with output through an IGBT into LABs.
Current efforts are with Don Smith devices, which offer a lot of promise. Inverters save the trouble of reducing frequency to usable levels. Just create DC, dump it into batteries, and let the inverter do the rest.

Ha, see the Type 422 oscilloscope over there on the side ;-). Ben (the other guy in WV) has (or had!) a Tektronix Type 465, though with some serious internal issues. (Turns on fine, but the trace is completely bent up, and the retrace is going down the middle of the screen, can't display any valuable info.) Not sure if you're an old-school 'scope repairperson, but the complete service manual is pretty easily available for it online.

117 Strands? If you had more than one coil like that you could have supplied power to the whole State of West Virginia. 😉
